Did you know that Nevada is not only one of the highest producers of geothermal energy, it also holds the greatest amount of unused geothermal energy.  Ormat Technologies is the company that runs Steamboat Geothermal Complex. They employ thousands of people and generate geothermal energy around the world.  Kerry Rohrmeier, Phd, is Government Affairs Manager at Ormat, where some of the world's best geologists, geophysicists and chemists work.  Kerry will share with us the kind of green economy that can come with these sustainable facilities.

Randy Dorman will be sharing his core values and life belief that we are better together, after 60 years of his life experiences, facing the challenges of life alone, and in relationship with others.

Mike Hix will moderate an exciting and informative episode of "Meet Your Rotarians!"  He will interview 4 mystery Rotarians of this GREAT club and learn amazing facts like:  who "recently removed and replaced a toilet," who "ran 2 Honolulu marathons and sold books door-to-door in Laredo Texas," who is a "certified caregiver and can juggle," and which one is "pretty good at drinking beer!"  Can you guess?
YES, 4  mystery Rotarians of this GREAT club will share fascinating facts about their lives and professions that you won't want to miss!  This is always a popular program, so be prepared to be impressed!

Paul studied astronomy and astrophysics at UNR, Department of Physics, doing coursework and research using the MacLean Observatory telescopes at the Redfield Campus.  Paul also trained at Johnson and Kennedy Space Centers with aerospace and NASA experts in astronomy, engineering and planetary science.  His work experience includes the Challenger Learning Center of N. Nevada.  Paul says "I work in the coolest classroom on the planet, it's a place of endless wonders.  It continues to innovate and inspire."

Gwen Clancy is probably Nevada's most prolific documentary filmaker with over 70 documentaries to her credit.  She will share her latest film:  XP Living The Ride - how the historic Pony Express is kept alive and the stops along the way.
The Pony Express was a private mail service which operated between St. Joseph, Missouri and Sacramento, California.  Begun on April 3, 1860 it operated for 18 months until the connection of the transcontinental telegraph on October 24, 1861.  This year's National Re-Ride is June 17-27, riding West-Bound from St. Joseph, MO to Sacramento, CA.

Eric Brown became the Washoe County Manager in November 2019, as appointed by the Board of County Commissioners, and leads Nevada's second largest county with more than 2,700 employees.  As Washoe County's top executive, Eric serves as liaison between the Board of County Commissioners, elected and appointed department directors, government and community agencies, businesses, employees and citizens.

A Special Performance!
Gerzon Chaves has traveled with and trained the best dance instructors in the industry!  Although his specialty is Salsa dancing, Gerzon is also trained in Ballroom, Ballet, Capoeira and more.  Gerzon competed and won Dancing With The Tahoe Stars.  He participates with the Boys and Girls Club, Doral Academy, Alpine Academy, Reno Housing Authority and more.  He is always interested in teaching youth how to social dance.  Gerzon is the Host at LEX NightClub at the Grand Sierra Resort every Friday night where he DJs and teaches a dance class.  Gerzon will speak on the benefits of dance and perform an elegant demonstration of the Salsa!

Darren McBride graduated from UNR as an Electrical Engineer.  After college he worked as a computer designer, and in 1985 founded Sierra Computer Group, a Northern Nevada IT services provider.  Darren hosted the technology show Computer Byte's on KKOH radio, and has founded numerous companies including Lookup Software, Telxar and MicroAge Sierra.
Patty Ryan worked for Microsoft Corporation in Redmond Washington for 25 years in engineering team roles.  Before retiring she led a team of machine learning engineers designing a wide range of A.I. solutions for large corporate clients including Toyota, EY and Warner Brothers.  Patty holds several patents and papers in the area.

Nevada Kids Foundation is a Children's Non-Profit that provides essential items and resources to the struggling youth in our community.  Their goal is to empower children to live a life with greater hope, freedom, and opportunities for a successful future.  Kallie will speak to us about creating environments and communities where every child has access to the tools they need to reach their full potential, with an extra focus on our under-served and rural areas.

Author of "All This Sitting Is Killing You", Therapist/Owner of Active Physical Therapy in Reno, Professor of Kinesiology at UNR, fitness enthusiast and golf lover, Dr. Parley will speak to us on why "All This Sitting Is Killing You," and how to survive and thrive in the modern age of sitting.

Cop28 UN Climate Change Conference in Dubai was the biggest of its kind.  Some 85,000 participants, including more than 150 Heads of State and Government, were among the representatives of national delegations, civil society, business, Indigenous Peoples, youth, philanthropy, and international organizations in attendance at the Conference from November 30 to December 13, 2023.  Dr. Karin Hilgersom, President, Truckee Meadows Community College, was a panelist, and will discuss the unique role that presidents and senior leadership at higher education institutions play to drive climate action.

Dennis' commitment to Rotary is to help all Rotarians and Clubs to be all they can be by maximizing good works in our communities.  Every project, donation, scholarship, and selfless kind act, is a beautiful song to the community.  Dennis believes that Rotarians make beautiful music in all we do, and encourages every Rotarian to sing our songs loudly, inviting those with Rotarian values to join us.

Paul Klein and Sean Gorin grew up in Sparks and attended Sparks Middle School and Reed High School.  Paul is a Lobbyist with Tri-Strategies Government Relations and Public Affairs and a father of three, and Sean works for UPS and is a father of four.  Paul and Sean will share their experiences in building homes and healing hearts in Cambodia, and fighting child trafficking.

As CEO of Nevada Humane Society, Jerleen has the honor of leading a dedicated team of 120 employees who work tirelessly to implement data-driven decision-making, industry best practices and compassion to care for pets.  The Nevada Humane Society has united over 140,000 animals since 1932.  They offer nose-to-tail support to keep them happy and healthy so that every season can be Snuggle Season.

Diedrichsen Elementary was just recognized as having the highest growth rate in the WCSD on the Nevada Report Card.  Principal Ryan Doetch is excited to share the HUGE impact the Sparks Rotary donations has had on the student learning, culture and climate, and positive behaviors.  

The Downtown Reno Partnership is a 501(c)6 nonprofit business improvement district whose core purpose is to make downtown Reno a safer, cleaner, vibrant district for residents and visitors. Neoma will share what is being done to improve the quality of life in the district.

ARC Dome Strategies is built upon over two decades of public sector leadership in a diverse number of fields and policy areas.  They provide services for Government Relations, Leadership Development and Consulting, Strategic Planning and Assessment, Crisis Management and Communications, Partnership Development, and Writing and Editing.  Caleb and Jackie will speak to us about the Lithium Nevada project.

Richard Jay is Senior Vice President and Investment Officer for a major brokerage firm, serving more than 36 years in community leadership roles in the Reno Tahoe region.  Richard serves on the City of Reno Financial Advisory Board and is an active member of the Reno+Sparks Chamber of Commerce and Great Basin Youth Soccer League.  Richard previously served as Vice Chairman of the Reno-Tahoe Airport Authority and has traveled the world.  Richard will share with us pictures and stories about spectacular places around the world that he has visited.

Jamie Vaughn is a recent breast cancer survivor, who is a fierce advocate for other breast cancer patients and survivors.  She is the host of the "Test Those Breasts!"™ podcast where she holds important conversations with current patients, survivors, caregivers, therapists and medical provider champions, to provide much-needed education and support.  "Test Those Breasts, Inc."™ is a nonprofit that includes resources and education about the signs of breast cancer.  Jamie will share with us the importance of self exams, early detection, and self-advocacy using the "Know Your Lemons" curriculum.   October is Breast Cancer Awareness month.  Be Vigilant!
